Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about baptism insurance.
Many venues require proof of at least $1,000,000 in general liability before they'll confirm your booking. Beyond venue requirements, a policy can protect you financially if someone gets hurt or something gets damaged during your baptism - costs that could otherwise come out of pocket.
Pricing depends on your guest count, event duration, and the coverage options you select. You can see your exact price instantly with no commitment required.
A standard policy covers general liability for third-party bodily injury and property damage. Optional add-ons include host liquor liability for events where alcohol is served, Waiver of Subrogation, and Primary & Non-Contributory status.
Fill out the online form, choose your options, and your Certificate of Insurance arrives within minutes. Keep in mind that coverage itself begins no sooner than the next day - the earliest coverage date you can select is tomorrow. No phone calls, no paperwork to mail in.
Yes - at no extra charge, you name your venue on your certificate during checkout, and the policy's additional insured endorsements extend protection to owners, managers, and lessors of your event premises - and to municipalities issuing event permits - as required by written contract. The certificate reflecting this is included automatically. Caterers and other vendors aren't eligible for additional insured status. Note that venues often also require Waiver of Subrogation and Primary and Non-Contributory, which are separate optional coverages that can be added for an additional charge.
Alcohol-related coverage is never included automatically - it is an optional paid add-on. For eligible events where alcohol is served but not sold, host liquor liability can be added during checkout. Available alcohol-related coverage options depend on the event type and eligibility shown during checkout.
Event cancellation is not a coverage that is offered. These are event liability policies. If you need to cancel, contact your venue and vendors directly, since cancellation terms are governed by your vendor agreements.

Complete Guide to Baptism Insurance
Everything you need to know before purchasing coverage for your baptism.
Baptism ceremonies represent sacred moments for families and congregations. Whether hosting a small gathering at your church or coordinating a larger celebration with an accompanying reception, safeguarding these events against unforeseen incidents matters. A guest injury or accidental property damage shouldn't compromise what should be a joyous spiritual milestone - that's precisely why we offer specialized liability protection for these meaningful occasions.
What Is Baptism Insurance?
Baptism insurance provides special event liability protection designed to shield event hosts from financial exposure when injuries occur or property sustains damage during ceremonies and celebrations. These short-term policies address third-party bodily injury claims and venue property damage, with host liquor liability available as an optional paid add-on when alcohol is part of your reception.
Venues including churches, banquet facilities, and outdoor locations commonly mandate proof of insurance before confirming bookings. They need confirmation that adequate protection exists to manage potential claims without jeopardizing their property or daily operations.
The encouraging news? You can complete your purchase in minutes. Pricing varies by event details, and you see your exact price before you pay.
Types of Coverage You Need
General Liability Protection
This forms the cornerstone of event protection. General liability coverage on these policies includes:
- Third-party bodily injury: the policy can help cover costs you're legally liable for and associated legal expenses
- Property damage: Unintentional harm to venue spaces falls under this protection
Base liability limits are $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate. Policies vary. See your issued policy for applicable terms, limits, conditions, and exclusions. These thresholds match what many venues ask for, and your venue can be named as an additional insured on the certificate at no extra charge.
Host Liquor Liability
When your reception includes alcoholic beverages - whether limited to wine and beer or a full selection - host liquor liability becomes essential. This protection can shield you when an intoxicated guest causes harm or property damage to others. Without this safeguard, you risk personal liability for medical expenses, attorney fees, and settlement costs.
Host liquor liability is an optional coverage that can be added for an additional charge for events where alcohol is served, provided you're not selling alcohol commercially. If your event involves charging for beverages or maintaining a cash bar, Full Liquor Liability becomes necessary instead, available for eligible event types. Other optional coverages - Waiver of Subrogation and Primary and Non-Contributory - can also be added for an additional charge, and higher liability limits above the base $1M/$2M are available at checkout.
When Venues Require Proof of Insurance
Churches, reception halls, community venues, and outdoor spaces commonly require event organizers to submit a Certificate of Insurance (COI) before finalizing reservations. This certificate demonstrates active coverage and generally must:
- Display minimum protection limits (typically $1M per occurrence, $2M aggregate)
- Designate the venue as an additional insured entity
- Specify accurate event dates and locations
- Originate from an A-rated insurance provider
With our coverage for eligible events, you'll receive your COI within minutes of purchase, with coverage available as early as the next day. You can name your venue on your certificate free of charge, and you can transmit certificates directly to any recipient electronically.
Even when venues don't explicitly mandate coverage, maintaining protection represents prudent risk management. Other policies generally won't satisfy a venue's certificate-of-insurance or additional-insured requirement. A Gigsure policy produces a COI naming the venue as an additional insured, which is what the venue is actually asking for.
Common Risks During Baptism Ceremonies
Indoor Baptistery Hazards
Indoor baptisms present distinctive safety challenges:
- Slip and fall accidents: Moisture accumulating around baptismal pools generates slipping dangers for attendees, clergy, and baptism participants
- Electrical shock risks: The combination of water and electrical equipment poses serious threats. Improperly grounded microphones, cameras, or lighting systems can cause severe injuries
- Water damage: Overflowing baptismal fonts or leaking systems can inflict substantial damage on flooring, carpeting, and structural elements
- Injury during immersion: Ministers and participants may experience back strain, falls, or unintended submersion complications
Facilities should implement slip-resistant flooring, appropriate railings, and verify all water-adjacent electrical equipment includes professional installation with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI).
Outdoor Baptism Dangers
Baptisms conducted in rivers, lakes, or oceans introduce additional challenges:
- Weather conditions: Unexpected storms, temperature fluctuations, or excessive heat can generate hazardous circumstances
- Water currents and depth: Powerful currents or unanticipated depth changes create drowning hazards
- Uneven terrain: Muddy shorelines, slick rocks, and unstable ground increase falling risks
- Wildlife encounters: Depending on geography, aquatic animals may present unexpected dangers
- Water quality: Polluted water can trigger infections when participants have open cuts
Preventive measures including daily condition assessments, lifeguard coordination, and emergency preparedness plans remain vital. Note that water activities are screened by the eligibility questions at checkout and are not an eligible activity, so plan an open-water ceremony accordingly.
Reception and Celebration Risks
Post-ceremony festivities introduce distinct liability concerns:
- Alcohol-related incidents when beverages are available
- Harm from decorative elements or celebration components
- Damage to Premises (facility property)
- Parking area incidents or property loss
Your policy schedule lists the coverage dates you select, including any setup and teardown dates you add at checkout. See your issued policy for applicable terms, limits, conditions, and exclusions.
How Much Does Coverage Cost?
Pricing varies by event details. When you request event liability insurance, here's what drives your rate:
- Number of attendees: Intimate gatherings (1-50 people) carry lower premiums than expansive celebrations (500+ guests)
- Event duration: One-day events cost less than multi-day observances, and Baptism policies can run up to 3 event days
- Coverage limits: You can raise the per-occurrence limit to $2 Million and the aggregate limit to $3 Million, $4 Million, or $5 Million. Higher limits are priced based on the coverage selected and are subject to minimum charges
- Alcohol service: Host liquor liability or full liquor liability is added for an additional charge, and only if you select it
The base premium for a Baptism is calculated using: number of guests x number of event days x rate per guest, subject to a minimum premium. Baptism coverage is written in a standard band of up to 400 guests and an extended band of up to 1,000 guests, and the guest count you enter determines which band applies to your event.
Optional coverages and higher limits are charged on top of the base premium. Additional charges may apply, including: a transaction fee, an underwriting fee, a Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) charge, if applicable, and state taxes and surplus lines stamping fees where required. All applicable charges will be displayed before you complete your purchase. When you obtain your quote, you'll see pricing for your specific event with no hidden fees. Most policies have no deductible, see your quote and policy for details. You can purchase up until the day preceding your event.
Understanding Policy Limits and Exclusions
These are common examples, not a complete list - see your policy for the full set of exclusions, terms, and conditions.
Standard Coverage Limits
Our event policies feature these standard thresholds:
- Per occurrence limit: $1,000,000 (maximum payment for any individual incident)
- General aggregate: $2,000,000 (complete maximum for all claims throughout policy period)
- Damage to premises rented to you: $100,000, included on every policy at no extra charge
You can raise the per-occurrence limit to $2M and the aggregate limit to $3M, $4M, or $5M at checkout when your venue demands higher coverage or you prefer enhanced protection.
What's Not Covered
Recognizing exclusions prevents unexpected complications when filing claims:
- Medical payments: there is no guest medical or med-pay coverage on this policy
- Participant injuries: participants, performers, and contestants are not covered for their own injuries, including the baptism candidate and officiating clergy
- Temporary structures: tents, stages, and similar temporary structures are not covered as property
- Fireworks and pyrotechnics: fireworks, pyrotechnics, and sparklers are not covered
- Virtual and livestreamed activity: virtual, hybrid, and livestreamed portions of your event are not covered
- Event cancellation: this is liability coverage, not cancellation coverage, and no cancellation product is offered
- Food service and products: products and food-borne illness are not a coverage area
- Bounce houses and inflatables: excluded
- Water activities: eligibility-blocked, never priced or covered
- Primacy: the policy is not primary by default, primary status requires the paid Primary and Non-Contributory add-on
This is not a complete list. Review your policy documentation in full, and ask before you buy if anything needs clarification.
